Philips CX50 CompactXtreme handheld ultrasound system
August 9th, 2008 by Daniel
Philips introduces the CX50 CompactXtreme – the first handheld ultrasound system to combine the image quality of traditional scanning equipment with portability, saving both clinicians’ time and improving patient care.
Clinicians have previously relied on a portable ultrasound to help investigate potential problems for very ill patients who cannot be moved. However, frequently the quality of the image may not be as reliable as those from static machines, so doctors have had to re-examine patients in order to confirm a diagnosis.
But with the CX50, clinicians now have a portable device that includes PureWave, a technology unique to Philips and the biggest breakthrough in its field in 40 years. With its uniform crystals, it provides greater bandwidth and twice the efficiency of conventional technology, resulting in pristine images for doctors in the operating room or at the patient’s bedside. It is of particular benefit for difficult-to-image patients such as the obese, in whom excess fat can act as a fog to ultrasound waves and so hamper diagnosis.
The device has a 15 inch high resolution monitor so clinicians can clearly see images wherever they are and the fast start-up system allows them to begin studies instantly. With its one-button controls placed logically on the control panel, it has also been designed to be simple and efficient for staff to use.
Tissue Specific Imaging in the CX50 automatically adjusts to match the examination required for the patient with the touch of a button. During the scan the operator can also make adjustments so they can enhance key details, so cutting down exam times and reducing the need for repeat studies. Wireless DICOM also allows data to be sent directly to/from the device, ensuring clinicians can access information wherever they need it.
The CX50 also comes with other groundbreaking features, such as a built-in handle and battery. The device can also be transported on a compact trolley small enough to fit in the tightest corners of a ward or even in its own carry case to other facilities.
Doctors are welcoming the arrival of the new CX50 as it will mean they can make quick and confident diagnoses wherever their patients need them.
